This textbook introduces students to the disciplines of criminology and criminal justice, using contemporary Australian examples to combine theory with practical applications and hands on research project. In the first section of the book, students will examine the nature of crime and how it is defined and measured in contemporary society. In the next section of the book, students will learn about the different criminological theories that guide our understanding of contemporary crime problems. In the final section of the book, students will examine criminal justice responses to learn how criminal justice agencies use these theoretical approaches to produce meaningful practical solutions. This textbook provides several benefits for novice criminology and criminal justice students, including prioritizing diversity and representation within each chapter. Interviews with researchers and practitioners help to make the textbook information come to life, offering critical insights into cutting-edge research and real-world illustrations of frontline criminal justice practices and policies. Students can gauge their comprehension of the chapter content with self-administered quizzes. Collectively, this interactive textbook enables students to advance their knowledge of criminology and criminal justice by drawing on the expertise of leaders in the field while applying local examples to this global discipline.
