27 Finding Commonwealth Legislation

The Federal Register of Legislation provides access to authorised Commonwealth Acts and subordinate legislation.

Finding current Acts

To browse current Acts on the Federal Register of Legislation, make sure In force is selected from the Browse for drop-down menu. Then navigate alphabetically to the title of the Act you would like to find.

To search for a current Act make sure In force is selected from the top heading, add the title of the Act and Filter by collection > Act. All current Acts are indicated with a green circle. Check there is a green label Latest version on the Act to make sure you are looking at the most recent compilation.

Finding point-in-time Acts

The Federal Register of Legislation provides access to historical versions of the Acts. Select All versions from an Act’s homepage. The table includes the dates during which that version was effective.

Finding historical Acts

Access Acts as made from federation (1901) onwards from the Federal Register of Legislation.
