Acknowledgement of Country

The authors and Deakin University acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of all the unceded lands, skies and waterways on which Deakin students, staff and communities come together. As we learn and teach through virtually and physically constructed places across time, we pay our deep respect to the Ancestors and Elders of Wadawurrung Country, Eastern Maar Country and Wurundjeri Country, where Deakin’s physical campuses are located; as well as the Traditional Custodians of all the lands on which you may be learning and teaching, where education has taken place for many thousands of years. We extend this Acknowledgement to any Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander Peoples who are engaging with this text.

The text was produced on the lands of the Peek Whurrong People of the Maar Nation, Peek meaning kelp and Whurrong meaning speaking. We are extremely lucky to live and work on the Country of the Kelp Speaking people who have been strongly connected to Sea Country for many tens of thousands of years. We are grateful to have the opportunity to learn, educate and care for Country.
