About the Author

R. Nazim Khan was born in Fiji where he completed his primary and high school education. He came to The University of Western Australia (UWA) as a Commonwealth scholar, where he completed a degree in Electrical Engineering. On his return to Fiji he taught at the Fiji Institute of Technology for three years, after which he returned to Australia. In 1986 he took up a position as Tutor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UWA. While in this role, he began a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics, which he completed with honours in 1991. Following this he completed a PhD in statistics. Nazim has taught at the University of Queensland, Griffith University and the Queensland University of Technology.

He returned to UWA in 2004 as a teaching and research staff in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UWA, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer. His research interests are in biology, engineering, medicine, and mathematics and statistics education.

Nazim’s other interests include chess. He was the leading player and national champion of Fiji in 1981-83. He was also the first to represent Fiji at international level, in the 1983 Commonwealth Chess Tournament in Melbourne. Nazim is a third degree black belt in Tae kwondo and speaks four languages.
