Acknowledgement of Country

Monash University respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which its campuses are located. We pay our respects to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, whose unceded lands are home to our Clayton, Caulfield, Peninsula, and Parkville campuses. We also acknowledge the peoples of the lands on which our other campuses and learning sites are situated, including the broader Indigenous communities across Australia.

We honour the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture, and community, and recognise them as the original knowledge holders and educators on this land. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and acknowledge the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples in preserving and sharing their cultural heritage.

We recognise that there is no single term that can fully reflect the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In this resource, we most frequently use the term Indigenous peoples to acknowledge both the sovereignty and the cultural plurality of Indigenous peoples across Australia. We respect the right of all peoples to self-determine their identity and ways of being.
