Acknowledgements
Writing a book is a privilege. Even more of a privilege is writing a book on a subject you’re passionate about, drawing on everything that excites and inspires you about your teaching practice. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have taught ACX701 Communication Concepts for the past four years and to have worked in the Postgraduate Communication space, where scholars and practitioners connect over their desire to tell compelling stories to diverse audiences across the shifting sands of a constantly changing communication landscape.
This book was a collective endeavour and I am fortunate to have received much support from Deakin University in the form of an OER grant. A huge thank you goes to the OER team at Deakin Library, especially to Angie Williamson who has championed OER and supported my own work here – and the work of other authors – in such a knowledgeable and encouraging way. Much thanks also to Astrid Bovell and Luke Watsford for their copyright advice, and to Alison Leedy for her help with learning design and layout.
To my student co-authors – you are wonderful! This book would not have happened without you and is the result of your hard work, creativity, and great thinking. Special thank you to Kym Lam Sam for his amazing work on the cover design.
In addition to the student co-authors listed on the next page, this book has benefitted from and been inspired by the Communication Concepts learning community. Where possible, the student work and ideas mentioned in the chapters ahead have been reproduced with permission and I am deeply grateful to the students who allowed their voices, thoughts, or research to be shared.
