Acknowledgements

Firstly, I would like to thank my family, my wife, Jess, and my boys Nathaniel and Timothy. Families often embark on difficult journeys such as these without choosing to. Thank you for putting up with my all-consuming focus and sharing in my educational rants.

I thank and acknowledge the many students I have worked with who have helped refine my teaching approach. While many of my students might claim to have learned a great deal from me; I have learned much more from them.

To Associate Professor Suzie Syme, Dr. Trixie James, and Dr. Sue Muloin: thank you for your invaluable feedback and peer review. Your insights and constructive challenges have shaped this textbook into a practical and effective guide that speaks to the enabling student experience, and I value it greatly.

Allison Hadfield, for the steadfast encouragement, meticulous review, and expert curation of this textbook. You have been an amazing source of support and a testament to the essential role library staff play in the development and creation of transformative educational resources. I would like to also extend my sincere thanks to Helen Heawood and the library staff.

To my boss and mentor, Associate Professor Stuart Levy, who recognised my potential before I saw it in myself. Your encouragement, patience, and faith in me have supported and inspired these projects. Thank you for listening to my pontifications with respect and patience.

To my Enabling team at Federation University: Kelly Hart, Rachel Massaro, Julie Sharp, Russell Hall, Dominic Williams, Daya Weerasinghe, and the additional and sessional staff members with whom I have had the pleasure to work with. Thank you for continuing to fight the good fight and for always putting the student first.

To anybody who read through drafts of this textbook and provided advice, encouragement, and constructive criticism. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.

And to Michelle Briede, the sage of enabling education, who has supported, challenged, and refined my perspective in the most caring and understanding of ways. I look forward to figuring out if we are “enabling”, or simply “enabling“. I am thankful for our shared passion for educational equity and advocating for marginalised students.

I am indebted to you all and deeply appreciate all you have done to help me become the educator I am today.
